The Early Years
Designated as Beta Chapter of Rho Psi, the second chapter was established in New York City in 1925. With a growing list of brothers in the East Coast, the Gamma Chapter was then established in 1926, in Philadelphia. Soon after in Boston, 1928, the Delta Chapter was founded. In celebration of Rho Psi's tenth anniversary and the addition of the most recent three chapters, a three-day convention was held at the Fraternity House on Fall Creek Drive in Ithaca, highlighting its most recent accomplishments.
The Middle Years
The 40's and 50's ushered the period of major growth for Rho Psi. Interests and activities expanded, and for the first time, Rho Psi grew towards the Mid-West and West. In 1948, both the Epsilon and Zeta Chapters were established. The Epsilon Chapter was formed in Urbana, Illinois, and the Zeta Chapter in Madison, Wisconsin. The society's westward expansion made a giant step forward as the Eta Chapter was born in Honolulu in 1950. The Theta Chapter was born in Chicago in 1952.
The Washington-Baltimore Chapter was established in 1955 as the Iota Chapter. Kappa Chapter was founded in Pittsburgh in 1957, and Lambda Chapter in New Haven in 1959. The Mu Chapter came into being in 1962 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Nu Chapter was established in State College, Pennsylvania in 1967 and the Xi Chapter in Southern California in the following year. That essentially completed the expansion of the Rho Psi Fraternity in the United States.
The Society in China
Rho Psi brothers then returned to China and maintained the Rho Psi spirit and made our growth a common phenomenon on both sides of the Pacific. For example, the Shanghai Chapter was established in October 1929, the Canton Chapter in July of 1935, Tientsin Chapter in December 1935, Hong Kong Chapter in 1945 and the Taipei Chapter in 1951.
Current Years
The name "Rho Psi Society" was formally adopted in the 1976 National Convention held in State College, Pennsylvania. Since then, female members have been welcomed into the Society.
